Snowy Egret

The Snowy Egret is very similar to the Great Egret (below), but the Snowy is much smaller. It also has a black bill, whereas the Great Egret has a yellow bill. The Snowy Egret has a yellow or reddish patch between the eye and bill (called "lores"), where the Great Egret doesn't. Both are waders and have the same "stand-and-wait" fishing method.

  1. Snowy Egret can also be confused with juvenile Little Blue Herons. Normally, Snowy Egrets are active hunters usually crouching and running after it's prey but they can sometimes be more sedate like a Great Egret.

  2. Snowy Egrets will also have yellow feet with black legs - juveniles will have greenish-yellow legs with some black on the forelegs, but still have the yellow feet. Snowy Egrets will also have Plumes while Greats will not.
