Mississippi Kite

While in Palo Duro Canyon yesterday, many of these Kites were soaring above us. There were at times 3 or 4 of them in a single tree. It appeared that some of them were involved in their mating ritual.

  1. Thank you for your fantastic pictures--you've helped me identify a couple of the birds my children and I have questioned. We're working on identifying a yellow bellied bird we've seen near the airport here in Amarillo. Not a meadowlark--the yellow is softer and there's no V. Any ideas?

  2. How about the Western Kingbird? They are seen a lot around here at intersections and on overhead cables. They are very agile and will chase a bud down relentlessly.
